Children’s Crafts Cafe
RE-VIVE were approached to help Joon create their first independent
children’s crafts cafe on the high street of Boston Spa. The brief was to
create a space that would be a relaxing, child friendly hang out
destination for the community, hosting a range of activities, including
toddler events, craft workshops and social gatherings.
With only 50m² of floor space, it was vital that the space was
planned properly considering the flow and usability. As the
crafts workshops were such a unique offering, we chose to place
the bespokely designed crafts table at the front of the store.
In the purposeful absence of a window display, this is the main
feature of the shop and can be easily seen from the high street.
To make sure that parents and adults could truly relax with
a cuppa whilst monitoring children’s play, we kept a spacious
and open plan layout. Designing furniture frames as thin and
minimal as possible means that natural light can flood all
the way through the space, keeping it light yet cosy.
The material pallet needed to balance between appealing to
both adults and children. We used natural materials such as
wood, concrete and rattan with pops of playful terrazzo to
create an overall light and airy space that all ages can enjoy
spending time in. A muted colour palette and clean lines
were used to achieve a laid-back Scandinavian vibe.
The space is now a real community hub where people can appreciate
time with their loved ones or turn new faces into friends. We
worked together to create a beautiful and memorable space with
great ambience that keeps families coming back time and time again.
